God has saved us for a purpose. A purpose that transcends what benefits we enjoy from the salvation we have received. A purpose that looks not on ourselves but to the realization that we were saved to serve others.

In Ephesians, Paul writes:

"For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them."

We've been saved to become a city on a hill, a light that cannot be hidden, a lamp that shines the light in the darkness for all to see the light of God's mercies. Christ saved us and gave us the ministry of reconciliation. For as long as every believer remains on the face of the earth, their lives are to be expended in an ambassadorial capacity; steering the hearts of the lost towards to salvation that the gospel alone brings.

We are the salt of the earth, here to give sense and reason to the earth. But as the scriptures tell, we must be careful not to lose our saltiness as that nullifies our witness.

Every Christian must be outward looking. Every church must be outward looking, putting itself in the frontline of the battle for the souls of men. Listen and learn what God requires of you as a part of his church.

What does it mean to be a relevant church? Or a biblically relevant church?

 

In an age where people who profess to be christians are constantly seeking to align with the trends of the age and aligning with the culture in a bid to be relevant in a sinful world, we must ask ourselves what the mind of God is concerning the outlook of the church as far as the times we live in is concerned.

 

Are we called to adapt to the culture, modify our worship and liturgy to be friendly to the world we seek to draw to Christ?

 

Absolutely not! The scriptures supersede all things, all knowledge, all concepts, all culture. It sets absolute standards for everything else and demands alignment from all things, not the other way around. The Word of God is the ultimate rule for life and living and does not bend to the changing faces of a flawed world and its people.

 

Because the scriptures give only life, it does not bend to what does not give life. It sets cultures right, it teaches, it reproves, it corrects and it trains, so that a consistently failing world and its cultures can find bearing to the path of what is true and just.

 

A biblically relevant church is the church that sets the Word of God above all else and seeks to conform everything to what God has revealed. Therein is life!

Resolutions are good. By God's merciful design, he has ordered the world to operate in time, space and seasons. A text of prayer in the scriptures says "teach us to number our days that we may apply our hearts to wisdom". God intends for us to live conscious of time and seasons and so our progression in our walk with him is predicated upon the passage of same. So it is good to make resolutions that help us live as God wants us to.

Believers are called to a life of growth, not just in time but in the quality of our walk with God. While other forms of growth that pertain to our lives is recommended, the growth that the Lord esteems above every other is a growth in grace; the grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 

In Psalm 16:8, David notes about the Christ, "I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken"

 In the first installment of the series "Our Core Values", pastor Adeola highlights two ways we can grow in grace.

The love of God is everlasting. It is without a beginning and an end, as far as our finite minds can comprehend. It is unfathomable. It transcends beyond reason and feeling. It is unconditional. It beats every sense of imagination.

All of these immutable attributes of God's love are encapsulated in one central fact; God's love is true!

The unconditionality of God's love means he loves us without anything we can do to merit it or anything innate in us. And he has done so before the beginning of time as we know it. This is Incomprehensible.

When you think about God's love, you do not cast your mind on things seen and unseen or what you call your reality or estate in life, you simply ponder upon the truth as revealed in His word.

While we journey through the checkered paths of this earth, in is inevitable that we look to find affirmation of God's love in our lives outcomes and experiences but we must know and believe that the true pointer of God's love for his children is the cross of Christ's death. There we received full access into God's love and how that it's faithfulness means it will endure till the end when we will be glorified in his heavenly kingdom.
