Being blind to our own pride, we are prone to carry on as though we have control of even the next second of our lives. James admonishes that we ought not to like that, but instead to always consider that our lives and outcomes are entirely in the hands of our maker and Lord, knowing which we must then cast all of ourselves fully on him.

The importance of spiritual discernment cannot be overstated as God desires that His children develop a deep capacity to discern what is true from what is false and who is true from who is false. Not everyone who says they are christian, truly desire to know and love Jesus Christ. An enemy of the cross is someone who professes to know and to love Christ but under the  influence of the devil, has rejected the way of the cross.
