Trusting in God vs Trust in Earthly Possessions presents a dichotomy where the believer is not to be at odds with the right choice. Pastor Martin Obono further explores how true prosperity is being where God is and material blessings—though not inherently evil—can reveal the true posture of our hearts.
Abraham, shaped by earlier failings, responds to conflict with humility and renewed faith in God’s provision. He graciously offers Lot first choice of the land, defying cultural norms and modelling Christlike trust. Lot, by contrast, chooses based on appearance—drawn to land that resembled Egypt—revealing a heart still drawn to worldly comforts.
Lot’s choice to “journey east” echoes a biblical pattern of spiritual decline seen in Adam, Eve, and Cain. His progression—from living near Sodom to dwelling in it, and later sitting at its gates—illustrates how compromise often begins subtly. His story warns believers that not every appealing opportunity is God-ordained. Without discernment, unchecked desires can gradually draw us away from God’s presence and purpose.
The message concludes with a sobering call to vigilance. Whether choosing a spouse, a job, or what we consume in media, our decisions must be rooted in God’s Word. Lot’s failure came not from ignorance, but from neglecting truths he likely knew. Believers are encouraged to guard their hearts, cultivate spiritual awareness, and return—like Abraham—to the altar, the place of first devotion. For even now, the Spirit moves among God’s people, seeking those who will fully surrender to Him.
