Pastor Adeola continues the Genesis series by reflecting on Abraham’s intimate encounter with God in a season of waiting and uncertainty. Nearly a decade after receiving the promise of descendants, Abraham remains childless, and the weight of unfulfilled expectations threatens his hope. Rather than hiding his frustration, Abraham pours out his heart to God, voicing his fears with reverence and honesty. In doing so, he models a kind of prayer that is raw yet faith-filled—marked not by performance, but by deep dependence.
God responds, not with rebuke, but with reassurance. He confirms that Abraham’s heir will come from his own body and then gives him a vision: the starry sky, with a promise that his descendants would be as numerous. What Abraham couldn’t fully grasp in that moment, we now understand in light of the New Testament—that the stars pointed not only to physical offspring, but to a spiritual legacy that includes all who believe in Christ. Abraham’s response is simple but profound: he believed the Lord, and it was counted to him as righteousness.
The message underscores that God is not indifferent to our doubts or struggles. Scripture reveals a God who is near to the brokenhearted, who pities His children in their weakness, and who meets us with assurance when we are overwhelmed. In our moments of fear, when it feels like God is silent or late, we are reminded that His promises are never at the mercy of our circumstances. His power is not diminished by our pain. Like Abraham, we are invited to bring our heartaches, our disappointments, and even our confusion before God. As one reflection put it: prayer is something weak people do, knowing they have the ear of Someone stronger than them and their situation.
