What does it mean to be a relevant church? Or a biblically relevant church?

 

In an age where people who profess to be christians are constantly seeking to align with the trends of the age and aligning with the culture in a bid to be relevant in a sinful world, we must ask ourselves what the mind of God is concerning the outlook of the church as far as the times we live in is concerned.

 

Are we called to adapt to the culture, modify our worship and liturgy to be friendly to the world we seek to draw to Christ?

 

Absolutely not! The scriptures supersede all things, all knowledge, all concepts, all culture. It sets absolute standards for everything else and demands alignment from all things, not the other way around. The Word of God is the ultimate rule for life and living and does not bend to the changing faces of a flawed world and its people.

 

Because the scriptures give only life, it does not bend to what does not give life. It sets cultures right, it teaches, it reproves, it corrects and it trains, so that a consistently failing world and its cultures can find bearing to the path of what is true and just.

 

A biblically relevant church is the church that sets the Word of God above all else and seeks to conform everything to what God has revealed. Therein is life!
