In our ongoing series through the book of Genesis, Ezekiel Adetunji reflected on Genesis 11:1–9, showing how the tower of Babel exposed humanity’s prideful resistance to God’s command to “fill the earth.” Instead of obeying, the people settled in Shinar, determined to build a city and a tower reaching to the heavens. Their goal wasn’t just safety or progress—it was self-exaltation. They wanted to make a name for themselves, rejecting God’s plan in favour of their own.
Though their rebellion was bold, God’s response was merciful. Rather than destroying them, He confused their language, halting the project and scattering them across the earth. This act of divine intervention prevented even greater corruption and reminded us that God’s purposes will always prevail, even when human ambition stands in the way.
Ezekiel reminded us that what sin divided at Babel, God restored. In Acts 2, the Holy Spirit united people of many tongues to proclaim God’s glory. And in Revelation, we see the promise fulfilled—every nation and language gathered around the throne of Christ.
